Saying Goodbye To Kik Messenger.
You won’t be forgotten, ol’ friend. The news broke that the instant messaging app Kik is shutting down due a “legal battle against the US Securities and Exchange Commission over its digital currency offering”, as Telegraph’s ‘Natasha Bernal’ puts it. This came as a complete surprise to me and it’s almost heartbreaking to see the app that I have so much personal history with is going to disappear. I didn’t use the app all that much recently, but I still found it pretty useful every now and again for when I needed to disconnect from socially interacting with my friends. Kik is where I met one of my closest friends who have supported me for years through my endeavours. They still do, and they were actually the first person I told when I read the news. He wasn’t as surprised as I was though as he…
French Court Pressures Valve To Allow The Resale Of Digital Games, But It Could Hurt Indie Devs.
The consumer benefits, but will it be worth it? Last week, the news broke that the High Court of Paris ruled that Valve has to allow European customers to freely resell the digital games they bought on the Steam store, a benefit that is usually exclusive to physical media. The ruling is a result of the European Union Law for digital goods stipulating that they can be resold without the original seller’s permission. Of course, Valve wasn’t going to just kneel over and agree with it, so they have predictably appealed the decision. The court is giving Valve three months to get their terms of service to comply with European law. “We disagree with the decision of the Paris Court of First Instance and will appeal it,” a Valve spokesperson told Polygon in an emailed statement. “The decision will have no effect on Steam while the case…
You Can Pre-Load ‘Destiny 2’ Right Now On Steam For Next Week.
Oof, but that file size though ( ̄ ̄|||). After game developer Bungie celebrated splitting ways with Activision, they were able to procure the Destiny IP and have now taken to essentially ‘re-publish’ the game on their own terms on the Steam PC gaming platform. This is something that was much needed after Destiny 2’s tumultuous post-launch with the whole XP throttling controversy back in 2017. Now going forward this means that those who were originally playing on the Battle.net game launcher, where Activision Blizzard’s top games reside, are going to be moving their game data over to Steam via the Bungie.net website. If you haven’t, you should read up on the whole process on Bungie’s website before the game launches next week on October 1st. Bungie has reassured to making the migration as easy as possible. I can confirm that it was pretty painless considering that I…
KFC’s Colonel Sanders Dating Sim Is Here And I Still Can’t Believe It Exists.
And it’s free! I came across the ‘I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator‘ steam page by developer ‘Psyop’ earlier this month and the first thing I thought of was “it’s a fan-made parody game”. Oh boy, was I wrong. I scrolled down the steam page and saw this: “Officially created by KFC. No, really”. I lost my freaking mind. I had to take a moment to digest that last bit. KFC actually greenlit a Colonel Sanders dating sim?! Oh my god. Of course it’s purely for marketing and notoriety, but it’s still amazing that they funded something for such a niche gaming audience (although that also means it wouldn’t have cost too much to make compared to something on a grander scale). With Wendy’s roasting people on Twitter and Arby’s making stellar cardboard artwork, KFC needed to find their…
