As you may already know, Devil May Cry 5 was just recently announced at E3, and quite frankly, I almost lost it. Do you know how badly I loved Devil May Cry 4 as a teen? I swear when I played it was the absolute best thing in the world and nothing could compare to its greatness. The hack and slash gameplay that has you fighting demon enemies is just phenomenal and makes you feel amazing when you can pull off the most brutal combos. The only game I’ve played that has matched the intense style of Devil May Cry is Bayonetta, but I was only able to play the Wii U Demo for Bayonetta 2.
Now that I’m all super hyped up for Devil May Cry 5, I decided to reinstall Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition onto my computer. I uninstalled it because I wasn’t getting into it, probably because I was used to the gameplay in DmC: Devil May Cry. I guess I also just wasn’t in the mood for that genre of game because when I played it the other day, it was crazy fun! I swear I am in love with Nero. Johnny Yong Bosch as the voice of Nero is basically the best thing ever and makes my gamer girl heart scream.
But enough with my fangirling, time to get to the point of this post: In the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 4, you can play as Lady and Trish from the start. As of writing this I’ve only played as Lady for now, but wow, she is just absolutely incredible to play as. I thought I loved Nero’s Red Queen (the motorcycle sword lol), but Lady’s Kalina Ann (rocket launcher) weapon is just too good not to fall in love with.
Below is a video I captured a while ago while playing as Lady. Her lock-on and fire ability is so satisfying. I love when Nero’s Devil Bringer (his right arm) initiates it’s special attack into a crazy action cutscene, but Lady’s Kalina Ann does a fine replacement of this.
I wasn’t able to play as Trish unfortunately. The game’s difficulty is a bit much for me at the moment so I’m not rushing there anything soon, but what I can tell from the youtube video below, Trish is no exception when it comes to another awesome character from the roster you can play as. Just looking at those intense moves makes me want to hurry up and beat Lady’s arc!
If you’re a veteran of the Devil May Cry series, you will most definitely enjoy this new addition of playable characters. If you’re new to the Devil May Cry series however, I would have to highly recommend playing the original story missions with Nero and Dante first as playing the story missions as Lady and Trish won’t give you much information regarding the story and lore of the game.
Recommendation:
YES
If you’re a girl looking for tight, intense action, then this is the game for you. However if you’re more interested in slow-paced combat, then you might want to skip this one.
